Everyone knows the position that the Republican base has taken on the subject of "Teh Gay". But what is Romney's position? Somehow, it's not quite as base-centric as I expected. I wonder if his base knows.
This headline from ABCNews.com caught my eye:
President Obama, Mitt Romney Agree: Gay Boy Scouts OK
It is true that Mitt Romney is far more tolerant of LGBT rights than many Republican politicians. He has expressed
support for gay adoption, support for domestic partnership rights, and even issued an executive order as Governor that forced justices of the peace to perform gay marriages after the courts ruled that they were legal.
Yes, it is also true that he opposes gay marriage, does not favor federal laws preventing discrimination against gays or lesbians, and tends to be driven by the winds of "maybe I can get elected if I say this". He has also given funds to organizations that oppose gay marriage.
Nonetheless, on the 8th of August, 2012, Mitt Romney's campaign affirmed that he still supports his position from 1994 - gay Americans should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts.
In general, this is a good thing... but how is it going to play at RedState? What are the people browsing Free Republic going to think? Personally, I think it is our duty to ensure that as many of Mitt Romney's supporters see this as possible. So, I am urging you to share this information, either by sharing this diary or by sharing one or more of the links above, on social media. Let it spread. Let them see.
Let them go ballistic.
